1 Program with Joanne Marcus
Joanne Marcus, MSW, is the executive director of Commonwealth Community Trust (CCT), a nonprofit organization operating nationally, that provides first-party and third-party pooled special needs trust administration services for individuals with special needs. Ms. Marcus brings to CCT 35 years of experience in nonprofit administration and has served as the executive director of CCT for over 17 years. Under the leadership of Ms. Marcus, CCT has grown to serve over 1,330 trust beneficiaries throughout the United States.

Ms. Marcus is frequently asked to speak to professional groups and community organizations, and has been a speaker for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Academy of Special Needs Planners, Financial Planning Association of Central Virginia, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, North Carolina Advocates for Justice and others. She has published articles in NAELA News Online, Special Needs Alliance’s Blog, AAJ Workers’ Compensation Newsletter (American Association for Justice), NAMI Voice (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Virginia State Bar’s Trust and Estate Section Newsletter, The Legal Examiner Blog, Autism Asperger’s Digest, AAPD News (The American Association of People with Disabilities), Life In Motion (United Spinal Association), Brain Injury Association of Virginia Newsletter and CPA Solutions.

Ms. Marcus received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and previously held executive positions at Catholic Charities and Jewish Family Services focusing her career in leadership roles for nonprofit organizations.
